Kristin Harrison is a writer, photographer and editor with more than 8 years of journalism experience. She’s worked for national publications including National Geographic Traveler, The Washington Post and Where International, and she was the editor in chief of Women’s Running magazine for three years.
Kristin holds a master’s degree in photojournalism from the University of Texas at Austin. Her photography has appeared in The Washington Post, The Washington City Paper and other publications, and she shot regular covers and feature stories for Where Seattle and Where Washington magazines.
In 2003, she traveled to Africa to photograph the work of Dr. Scott Kellermann, an American doctor providing health care to impoverished communities in southwestern Uganda. She found the experience one of the most challenging—and rewarding—of her life.
So, in 2009, Kristin left her job as editor in chief of Women’s Running magazine to work for Camfed, an international nonprofit that provides education to girls in rural Africa. Now, as the strategic communications manager for Camfed, she regularly travels to Africa to take photographs and interview girls and young women about their lives.
